Guy Masterson was inspired to become an actor by his great uncle, the Hollywood icon Richard Burton.

Since then he has taken well over 50 shows to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and, without the help of any Arts Council funding, he has put on six of the most successful solo shows of the past decade, including Under Milk Wood, Playing Burton, Berkoff's Women and Shylock.

American Poodle is an absurd take on the America and Britain’s “special relationship” from opposite sides of the pond.

Masterson plays a multitude of characters, exploring Britain’s winning and losing of the colonies in the new world, and the modern American tendency to see the UK through Dickensian spectacles and Hollywood movies.

In Fern Hill, he performs some of the more rarely heard writings of Dylan Thomas, including short stories and poems.

American Poodle and Fern Hill are on at the Millfield Arts Centre, in Silver Street, Edmonton, on Wednesday and Thursday, October 1 and 2, at 8pm.

Tickets for either show cost £12 (concessions £10) and are available from the box office on 020 8807 6680.
